Looking for some fiber fun in the days ahead?
Join me for Yarn Fest 2022!
Yarn Fest is happening this spring in Loveland, CO April 20-23. It’s been postponed at least twice now due to Covid, but registration is open so that’s a big green light!
I’ll be teaching 5 tapestry classes this year, including two of my favorite techniques, Color Blending and Texture in Tapestry.
If you’ve never woven tapestry before, you can start with Tapestry 101.
My week begins with this 6-hour workshop on April 20th. You’ll start with building and warping your own frame loom followed by the basics of tapestry weaving: stripes, blocks, diagonals, and curves. The kit includes everything you need except scissors and a tape measure.
If you can’t make it for that class, you still have a chance to learn how to get started with Warping a Frame Loom the next morning. This 3-hour session will supply you with the materials you need to go on and take any of the other tapestry classes: Tapestry 201, Color Blending, or Texture in Tapestry.
Tapestry 201 continues on from the 101 class but isn’t a prerequisite. As long as you have a loom warped and ready to go and understand the basics, you can take this class. No kit in this one, but if you’ve taken either of the previous classes, you’ll be all set. Materials are listed in the description.
For me, the fun really begins with Color Blending. There are a number of possibilities for playing with color in tapestry weaving; hatching, pick and pick, and weft bundling will be the focus of this class. This class has a kit that will give you the chance to try out a number of quality tapestry yarns that I enjoy working with. It’s a perfect way to get started creating beautiful blends of your own creation.
My last class for the week is Texture in Tapestry, on Friday morning. Techniques covered include twining, knotting, and yes, a wee bit of Soumak!
And that’s not all: plenty of other instructors to learn from, too. Whether you want to up your game in weaving (like weft ikat or tablet weaving) or learn something completely new, check out Yarn Fest. And don’t forget to look at the Marketplace vendors, too!
Hope to see you there!
