Meet Judy Harcus

Judy at the Wednesday Tapestry Group

I first met Judy Harcus in person when I visited my friends, Terry Gerard and Christine Rivers, at their home on Vancouver Island earlier this year. But it wasn’t the first time I’d heard of her. I wrote a post in 2022 on the Tiny But Mighty ATA exhibit which included a tapestry of hers that I absolutely loved.

When I wrote to ask her if I could include it in a blog post I was stunned to learn that she had just started weaving tapestries. It was such a well-conceived and beautifully presented piece.

I remember then later that year - on the Scottish Road trip (when I met Terry and Christine for the first time in person), Terry mentioning that blog post and telling me that Judy was a member of their tapestry group(s).

So it was only natural that when I visited Terry and her tapestry group, I would see Judy there. What I didn’t expect was her graciousness in letting me invade her home and photograph all her work! She was giving Terry and I a lift back from Christine’s (and yet another tapestry group) and it wasn’t exactly on the way- but it wasn’t exactly really out of the way, either. So I blurted out- hey, could we stop by your house and see your other tapestries???

She said Yes! And while many were hanging on their walls, she gave me a chronological tour of her foray into the world of tapestry. From beginning to present.

It seemed only fitting and natural to share some of her work here.

I loved the way she thought of everything, especially the presentation in each and every piece. She also kept very impressive records from the beginning. Kudos to you, Judy!
