Beginning Tapestry is Coming to Stitches West in 2020

Join me and explore a new medium as I share my love for Tapestry!

Stitches events, by XRX,Inc, have traditionally been focused on knitting classes, with some crochet and design classes and a few weaving classes, such as rigid heddle. Stitches West is their largest venue and I am thrilled to tell you that I will be teaching two Beginning Tapestry classes next February in Santa Clara, CA at Stitches West 2020.

On Friday, February 21st, I’ll be teaching an all day (6 hours with a 2 hour break in between) class: Tapestry 101: Beginnings. Here each student will start with building and warping their very own frame loom. We’ll cover the basic techniques from simple stripes to building blocks and curves as well as tips to control the selvedges… and much more. You’ll come away with a small mug rug to show off what you’ve learned.

Saturday morning continues with another class called Tapestry 201: Beyond the Basics. In this class, additional techniques such as hatching, distorted (eccentric) wefts, and outlining will be covered. Students do need to come with a warped loom for this one, but if taking Tapestry 101, the back side of the warp can be used for the 201 class.

Tapestry is a wonderfully creative medium requiring little overhead and equipment costs. Besides being another outlet for creativity, tapestry weaving also uses up odd bits of yarn! Hope to see you there!
