Color in Tapestry: Introducing Value Packs
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been playing with color and specifically color values. I’ve written about it here and here.
One of my favorite memories of having had a yarn shop for 13 years was playing with color. I loved putting kits together to make it easier for knitters choosing yarns. Guess I’ve missed that.
This week my daughter, Hazel, and I did just that. We picked out combinations that included 5 values. One light, one dark, and three medium. That was our only criteria.
I admit it was difficult for me not to gravitate to my favorite colors every time (you probably know what they are…) but the intent wasn’t just to come up with my colors; it was to think objectively and create combinations that work.
Hazel, however, was a natural. Here’s what she came up with.
She did a great job, don’t you think?
This yarn is EPiC.
And this is what I love about it.
There are 114 colors.
Some are very bright!
Some are very subtle.
There’s a good range of lights and pastels. Lights are what I struggle the most with when I choose my yarns for a design.
It’s my favorite weight yarn. Think lace-weight, color-blending. I can combine 5 strands for my most commonly used sett of 8 EPI.
It’s not too smooth and not too fuzzy. My other favorite yarns are Faro and Mora so this one fits right in with those two.
This is just the beginning. I’ll be offering these Value Packs (color kits) on my website. Each kit will include approximately 150 yds (.5 oz) of 5 different hues. One light, one dark, and three medium values.
I’ll post again when they’re available - or better yet, sign up here to get my newsletter. You’ll be the first to hear when they’re ready plus more musings on color, texture, and all things tapestry!
Playing with color makes me happy.
Does it make you happy, too?
