Tapestries for Sale

I’ve been working this past week on adding my small tapestries to my online shop.

I’m not there yet and I’ll tell you why.

To sell work online, there are a lot of things to consider and to prepare.

It’s not just taking a photograph of the finished piece and adding a price to it. Nope. First of all, more than one photograph is required. First, an image that focuses on the tapestry itself. Then definitely one that shows the piece in its entirety with the presentation included. And, of course, a detail would be optimal.

But that’s not the start. I like to keep a record of all my tapestries on this website. I have them tucked away under “Tapestries” or “Woodles” with each of the images linked to another page that has a full description and any pertinent notes.

Do you see where this is going? If I’m going to sell these pieces, I don’t want to lose the record of them. So I will first need to create a page for each individual piece, write in detail about each one, then upload the image to either the Tapestries or the Woodles page and link each image to their respective page.

I know what you’re thinking. Maybe if I weren’t going about this all backwards, I would already have this done. I couldn’t agree with you more. Best practice would be to document each weaving as it’s completed: create the page for it, write about it, and add the image to the Tapestry or Woodle gallery. Then “voila!” all I would have to do when I decide to offer it to the world would involve a few more photos (which I would likely already have) and a quick click on the keyboard to link it all together. Hindsight.

Maybe next time.

And then, of course, there’s also the shipping to consider. I don’t mean the pricing. I decided not to even go there. I’ll be taking the shipping charges into account with the pricing. I’m referring to the act of shipping. The search for the right shipping container. The packing material. All items I don’t have readily available so something that definitely needs consideration before I put these online.

Last but not least, there’s the trip into town to mail it.

Plus… there will no doubt be multiple questions to answer when/if someone stumbles onto the images and doesn’t have a clue what it is. But I guess that’s just part of it.

Makes me think twice about all this. Or three times.

So in the mean time, if you are interested in any of the pieces I put in this post, please email me and we’ll talk! I’m not saying I won’t get them online, but it definitely won’t be this week. (The two with the added French Knots have sold.)
